Pit Stop: Why I Use Natural Deodorants

When it comes to deodorants, for me, it's necessary to go natural. And it's one of those things that people always ask me about. Why do I use natural ones? Are regular ones unsafe? There are plenty of people out there who buy organic produce, rub on organic lotion and drive hybrid cars but still swipe on their artificial, baby-powder scented antiperspirant. They fear that deodorants without sweat-reducing and body odor masking chemicals don't work. And no matter how natural you want to be, you still don't want to smell that natural. Continued...

Hey Baby

Having a baby is complicated. I've had three, so I can tell you with all authority that life with little ones would be so much easier if they came with instruction manuals. Since we aren't that lucky, it's simply a game of trial and error. But one thing that you don't want to error in is using harsh products and chemicals on baby's super new and super delicate skin. That's why organic baby care is the only option for me. It's gentle, safe and soothing. Continued...

What I'm Loving Now: Xingu Serum & Dr. Alkaitis Soothing Gel

When it comes to skincare, just like in life, sometimes you need to lighten up. Maybe you're in the dog days of a sweltering summer and a heavy face cream certainly isn't welcome near your face. Or maybe your skin is extra sensitive, extra oily or simply responds to a lighter product. Or perhaps you accidentally fell victim to the age-old problem of too much sun and too little sunscreen, resulting in a sun-scorched complexion. Luckily there are two particular products that I've recently fallen for that prove you don't need to sacrifice pureness and potency in order to find your way to the lighter side of life. Continued...

Eco-Fashion: Toggery's Fall & Holiday Collections

There's nothing I love more than seeing more and more organic options available. Whether it's in the grocery store, the toy store or the department store, making an eco-friendly purchase is easier than ever. This is especially true when it comes to fashion. From well-known chains to smaller boutique brands, it's refreshingly simple to find stylish, sustainable and even (yes!) affordable clothes. And although I could spend all day shopping for organic styles online, right now I'm particularly obsessed with Toggery. It's a fairly new brand created by eco-designer Kate D'Arcy in Pennsylvania. Her blouses, dresses and pants are beautifully crafted, easy to wear and come in the most gorgeous colors imaginable. Plus one of the brand's goals is to make sustainable fashion affordable. (Which means I get to buy even more!) Continued...

What I'm Loving: Living Nature Thickening Mascara

There are some things in life that are just necessary evils. Mascara definitely falls into that category. The idea of fussing with something as tiny as eye lashes would be absurd in a parallel universe. But here on Earth, glossy, full and dark lashes are just expected. And they just make you feel prettier. When it comes to choosing a mascara I don't expect, nor want, cartoon looking lashes extending to my brows. I just want a basic lash upgrade using a product that doesn't irritate my eyes or poison the environment. That's just what I get with Living Nature's Thickening MascaraContinued...

Eco-Makeover: Your Kids' Lunch Box

Back in the 'olden' days people would cart around a steel lunch canister filled with a sandwich wrapped in a cloth napkin and some soup housed in a reusable metal cup. Then plastic became a huge part of everyday life and soon we were sending our kids off to school with a lunch box (or even worse: a disposable bag) filled with plastic baggies, juice boxes and everything else that just gets tossed away when the bell rings. And if that wasn't bad enough, it's also known that some lunchboxes and bags contain poisonous lead. Luckily, with a few small adjustments you can take your child's lunchbox from toxic and wasteful to safe and eco-friendly. Continued...

Tiny Kits That Make A Big Statement

I travel a lot. Or at least I attempt to. But as I'm tossing swimsuits or walking shoes into my suitcase, I always dread what's ahead. packing my toiletries. My normal ones are too big to lug around and many 'travel' sizes don't last past the initial few days. So when I first saw the Living Nature Essentials collection I was immediately intrigued. Each of the five kits (four for face, one for body and hair) includes everything you need to stick with your bathroom routine-and the sizes will definitely last you awhile. Each of Living Nature amazing products is tucked away in its own mesh compartment. The whole kit gets rolled up and is sealed with a sturdy piece of Velcro It's remarkable simple, yet truly genius. Continued...

Eco-Celeb of the Month: Bette Midler

Bette Midler is a woman who wears many hats. She's conquered the worlds of television, film, Broadway and music. And now she's taking over Vegas with her act 'The Showgirl Must Go On' at Caesars Palace in Vegas. But perhaps her most cherished hat is that of a conservationist. According to a recent appearance on Oprah, cleaning up the environment has "almost become an obsession."  It all started when Bette noticed that the parks and open spaces in New York City desperately needed some help-especially in the lower income neighborhoods. So in 1995 she founded the nonprofit organization New York Restoration ProjectContinued...

Eco-Fashion: Affordable Fall Finds

I'm a huge fan of organic fashion. The problem though has always been finding stuff that's as friendly to my wallet as it is to the environment. Organic clothing has a reputation for being on the expensive side-and for good reason. Like organic food and other goods, it costs more to produce and manufacture organic items. Luckily, as the demand grows, the prices drop. This fall you can find everything from organic denim and tees to trendy jackets and even shoes at prices that won't break the bank. Continued...
