1. What motivated you to start your own line?
I had been searching for effective organic skincare when I traveled to Morocco for a vacation in 2007. It was then I discovered Argan oil and realized I had found the single ingredient I had been searching for. After frequent trips to Morocco to source the highest quality argan oil, I developed a deep appreciation for the people of Morocco, particularly the Berber women who do the work of extracting the argan oil. Inspired by these women, I developed the idea to create a line of ethically sourced skincare that provides economic opportunity and gives back to the Berber women.

Organic makeup is becoming more and more mainstream these days. You can’t flip through an Elle, Vogue or InStyle magazine without seeing a mention of some our natural cosmetic lines in a photo-shoot, editor’s pick or celebrity recommendation. A few years ago, you’d catch the occasional article about green products or natural alternatives in there, but they were mostly presented as a fringe trend for tree hugging yoga aficionados.
Now it seems that interest and awareness has grown to the point that the botanical brands are well integrated into those glossy pages as authentic endorsements for everyone. It’s about time we reached this tipping point! Health and environmental benefits aside, our products work beautifully. The stars of stage, screen and catwalks wouldn’t use them if they didn’t.

What motivated you to start your own line?
Back in 2002, as my daughter was moving into her teens and just after I lost my mother to breast cancer, I began looking for a cosmetic line that was as pure as the natural skincare I had been using. Some of the ‘health food store’ makeup brands were pretty clean, but the colors lacked the sophistication and variety of more conventional cosmetics lines. I thought women should be able to have both clean products and great color selection. ‘Beauty without compromise’ was my ideal.

1. What motivated you to start your own line?
After many years in the fashion and make-up industry, I’ve learned a lot about the impact of daily exposure to chemicals in beauty care products. Hollywood stars, more than most of us mere mortals, need to put their best face forward. Whether it’s on screen for a role or a candid paparazzi shot on the street, a celebrity’s look is almost always in the spotlight. Their skin care regimen and cosmetic choices are important tools of the trade so, naturally, we want to know what lotions and potions they are using to get that glow – naturally being the key word.

Some of you may know my story. My background is not in makeup, I did not set out to create a global cosmetic business but I did set out to change the world. My mission in life is to turn as many people as possible onto natural and organic alternatives.
Many years ago I suffered with endometriosis and experienced infertility as a result. I had given up on the possibility of having children naturally and had resigned myself to ongoing surgery and pain. But 10 years ago I came across a book which changed my life, Hormone Heresy written by American wellness guru Sherrill Sellman. Reading the book I discovered that there were more natural approaches to my hormonal illness,

Angelina Jolie has received three Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and an Academy Award. She’s also considered one of the world’s most beautiful women. Oh, and she shows up on the red carpet accessorized with Brad Pitt. But what really makes Jolie stand out (at least in my humble opinion) is her humanitarian efforts. And she doesn’t do it for the sake of the press either. Jolie is truly committed to making our world a better place, which is why she continues to personally plead for the lives of those less fortunate. Jolie even admitted to donating a third of her increasingly large income to charity, resulting in millions of dollars earmarked towards her favorite causes.

Morgan Freeman’s distinctive voice stands out among thousands of others. From Shawshank Redemption to Batman Begins, his talented acting ability can be seen in dozens of films, but there’s one that’s special to me that you can’t see him in. In the English version of the Oscar-winning March of the Penguins, Morgan’s authoritative and empathic voice narrates the story of this heartwarming and inspiring documentary. For another visual dose of environmental empowerment, check out the website for Earth Communications Office (ECO). Freeman–along with Gene Hackman, Patrick Stewart, and others–narrate short video messages, seen in over 100 countries by over a billion people annually, in an effort to bring awareness to environmental concerns.
