She's Got Legs

July 1, 2008

One of the things I love about winter is getting a little lazy when it comes to my legs. Hey, no one sees them when they're covered up in pants and thick tights. So I don't mind going a few extra days without shaving or deciding that sleeping an extra five minutes is more important than moisturizing. But now that it's leg-baring season, it's definitely time to give my legs the care they so rightfully deserve.

Shaving is a pain, but for pretty much all of us it's a necessary evil. Before you bring out the razor, give yourself a leg up by scrubbing up with an exfoliator. Scrubs buff away dead skin cells to soften legs. This means there's less getting in the way between the hair follicle and the razor, so you get a smoother, longer-lasting shave. I love the certified organic Suzanne aux Bains Gentle Body Scrub, which uses gentle Apricot kernels to naturally exfoliate and nurturing essential oils to soothe and prevent irritation that can happen after shaving.

Now it's time to talk about that dirty little word that plagues so many women-cellulite. And although the only way to really get rid of cellulite permanently is diet and exercise, there's a way to look better without all of the hard work and restaurant restraint. The Santaverde Aloe Vera Cellulite Gel uses herbal ingredients like the caffeine in Green Tea to activate the skin's natural microcirculation and metabolism to reduce the appearance of cellulite. The Weleda Birch Cellulite Oil is a European best seller (and we all know how skimpy their swimsuits are over there). It uses organic Birch Leaves, Rosemary and Ruskus to tone and enliven the legs. The Dr. Hauschka Rosemary Leg & Arm Toner helps reduce the appearance of those nasty little varicose veins.

One of the easiest ways to get your legs ready for summer is with a bottle of plain old moisturizer. Actually, I should clarify because the Jurlique Citrus Body Care Lotion is anything but plain. The light formula full of calendula, rosemary and birch extracts is hydrating but won't weigh you down. And the refreshing lemon scent is ideally suited for summer. Stash a bottle in the fridge to cool down your legs during the hottest days.  And before you slip on that sundress, put your legs in their best light by layering on a body oil. Your legs will immediately be moisturized and they'll be left with a soft sheen that's super flattering. It's almost like panty hose in a bottle. The Primavera Active Body Oil hydrates with organic Jojoba oil while and is instantly revived with sunny lime and stimulating ginger. Your skin will be left smooth, glowing and ready to show off.
