The Dr. Is In

February 24, 2009

When it comes to those who make organic products there are those who know stuff and then those who really know stuff. Dr. Alkaitis is certainly one of the latter. Trained in plant-based healing as an ethnopharmacologist, he’s also a chemist and molecularbiologist. Those are the kind of serious credentials that allowed him to work with four Nobel Laureates before turning to his own masterpiece: a hand-manufactured organic skincare line called (naturally) Dr. Alkaitis Holistic Organic Skin Food. Since he has both a scientific background and a love of botany, Dr. Alkaitis was able to blend cutting edge science with the pure properties of medicinal plants.

One of my favorite quotes of his is, “If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.” And when you think about products soaking directly into your skin, doesn’t his philosophy make perfect sense? Every product is made raw plant ingredients that are certified organic, biodynamic or ethically wild-crafted (obtained from unspoiled wilderness areas in a sustainable manner). Leaving them raw essentially means that the holistic ingredients stay biologically active and so the nutrients remain potent and powerful. When looking at his products you’ll never notice ones for 'dry’ or for 'oily’ skin types. That’s because Dr. Alkaitis specifically developed his line to be work with everyone. Each product actually adapts to your skin’s individual needs. Which is why you won’t find a zillion products in the line. It only takes a few to leave your skin looking and feeling positively perfect. Here are a few of my favorites:

The Dr. Alkaitis Organic Herbal Toner is not your average toner to say the least. The first thing you’ll notice is the texture. It’s slightly thick, with a consistency between a liquid and a gel. This makes it easy to smooth onto the skin. Full of refreshing and soothing Aloe Vera, Atlantic Seaweed and Sea Wrack, your skin will quickly drink it up. Not only does it soften and tone, it also protects against environmental damage and helps tightens pores. I also love the scent, which is pretty but not overly potent. After the toner and the Organic Day Crème, apply a small amount of the Organic Eye Crème. It’s an absolutely lovely cream created by Dr. Alkaitis from an Aloe Vera base along with his Eye Rejuvenation Support and Eye Renewal complexes. Essentially it’s a fancy way of describing the raw botanical ingredients that have been harnessed to help alleviate puffiness, smooth fine lines and reduce dark circles. It works – and it’s wonderful.

Beyond the basics, you’ll find a few targeted products, including the Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil blended with medicinal herbs, essential oils and virgin cold-pressed organic oils. And while this little gem can be used on your face to increase elasticity, protect against environmental pollutants and help repair current damage, you can also massage it into your cuticles, repair rough elbows or provide serious hydration wherever you need it.  Other treatment products include the Dr. Alkaitis masks, such as the Organic Cellular Repair Mask. All of the masks come in powder form and are made with raw ingredients that become biologically activated when you add water. This technique means that the just-mixed mask is as powerful and fresh as it can be when you apply it to your skin. The anti-aging Organic Cellular Repair Mask helps repair and regenerate skin cells with antioxidants, vitamins, enzymes and minerals. The fortifying formula delivers powerful nutrients to actually make your skin smoother, healthier and more radiant than you’ve seen it in awhile, It-like all of the Dr. Alkaitis products-is definitely worth checking out.
