Hands & Feet FAQ

How can I heal dry, cracked feet?

Begin by soaking feet in a warm footbath with a few drops of a nurturing product (we like Dr.Hauschka Sage Bath). Then smooth feet with a file or pumice stone and/or vigorously massage them with a body scrub to exfoliate the dead skin. Next generously apply foot balm and cover your feet in protective cotton socks to help the balm absorb. Apply foot balm morning and night. And repeat the footbath with scrub throughout the week until heals become softened.

How do I treat extremely dry, chapped hands?

Choose a rich hand cream and re-apply often throughout the day and especially after washing hands. At night use a hand cream very generously before going to bed. To help seal the moisture, cover your hands with spa or cotton gloves once or twice a week.

Why don't I see nail polish on Saffron Rouge?

Conventional nail polishes contain phthalates, formaldehyde-releasing ingredients, toluene or acetates. And although healthier alternatives exist, they're still not as clean as we'd like them to be and our strict standards prevent us from carrying them.  However, we are always on the lookout for new ones.

How can I prevent brittle nails?

Brittle nails are often caused by chemicals found in nail polish removers and cleansing agents as well as frequent hand washing and dry weather conditions. To keep nails strong and healthy try to avoid harsh ingredients found in the products mentioned above and use a nourishing hand cream or nail oil daily, especially after washing. Refer to our Nail Solutions section for more information and specific product recommendations.

What can I do for nail fungus?

Nail fungus is usually caused by exposure to moist environments such as shower floors and swimming pools. To prevent and treat, look for oils and balms with the key words "anti-inflammatory" and "anti-microbial". Neem is a great ingredient, as it has both of these properties and is also an anti-fungal. Keep in mind that it may be necessary to consult your doctor about treating nail fungus. Refer to our Nail Solutions section for more information and specific product recommendations.

How can I treat damaged cuticles?

Look for nail and hand products specifically formulated to deeply nourish while protecting the skin with anti-inflammatory ingredients. And to prevent cuticle damage, keep hands well hydrated and stay away from trimming cuticles, which can lead to irritation and infections. Refer to our Nail Solutions section for more information and specific product recommendations.
