Face Oils FAQ
Why use a facial oil and how do they work?
A facial oil is water free and only contains pure plant oils, rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and other valuable nutrients for the skin. A typical face oil will include a nurturing base oil such as Jojoba or Almond as well as potent seed oils such as Pomegranate, Rose Hip, Camellia, Grape, Black Cumin and Pumpkin. However some face oils contain only pure seed oils. Facial oils work by deeply penetrating the skin and delivering these natural plant ingredients. Immediately skin becomes softer and more radiant, and feels velvety soft. After time lines may be softened and skin will have a youthful glow. Facial oils are wonderful anti-aging products as they support, protect and help regenerate skin cells. And since they’re all natural, they don’t clog pores. So don’t be afraid of the word 'oil'. TIP: If you are using a face oil at night or 30 minutes before you leave the house, make sure to give them time to fully absorb.
When should I use a facial oil?
A facial oil should be used in the morning in place of a moisturizer. Or to enrich your usual moisturizer when your skin is extra parched or needs a little more care, blend in a couple drops of face oil. At night you can also use a facial oil if you choose. However some experts believe that skin should be left free of a moisturizer or oil at night – when your skin naturally regenerates – to allow it to properly breathe. It is also thought that, at night, your skin can become addicted to using a moisturizer, which slowly halts its own production of moisture.
Why are some facial oils in a capsule vs. a bottle?
The biggest difference is preserving the product. Once something is exposed to air the oxidization process begins, making the formula prone to breakdown and contamination. Since you twist open a new capsule every day, you’re getting the freshest product possible. But that’s not to say a bottle isn’t good. Just remember to store facial oils properly by keeping them out of the sun and in a dark, cool location. Also make sure they have proper expiration dates use them beforehand. No expiration date most likely means the product is filled with heavy preservatives.
I keep seeing 'seed oil', what is it?
Seed oils are potent healing oils that are pressed from seeds. They include Pomegranate, Rose Hip, Camellia, Grape, Black Cumin, Pumpkin, Raspberry, Cranberry and Quince - among others. One of the most beneficial ingredients you’ll find on Saffron Rouge, seed oils are typically loaded with antioxidants, which fight off cancer-causing free radicals. They’re also extremely high in essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and polyphenols to promote a healthy complexion and prevent the signs of aging. Since they support and protect skin cells, seed oils are a perfect option if you’re looking for natural anti-aging ingredients. They are also typically more expensive then a base oil.
Can I use a straight base oil on my face?
Sure. Feel free to experiment and have fun. You can use a base oil solo or create your own facial oil by adding a few drops of specific essential oils for an added boost. Good base oils for your face include Evening Primrose, Rose Hip, Camellia seed, Pomegranate, Grape seed, Sesame, Avocado, Sallow Thorn (Seabuckthorn) and Calendula. Some of these are not recommended to be used at full strength and should be diluted down with a base oil such as Jojoba, Almond, or Macadamia nut. Seed oils support cell vitality while protecting, are typically loaded with free radical-fighting antioxidants and are very high in phyto (plant) nutrients, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and polyphenols,
Good essential oils for face include Rose, Jasmine, Frankincense, Rose Geranium, Neroli, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, Tea Tree, Lavender, Myrrh, Chamomile, Patchouli, Bergamot and Cedarwood. A general guide is 5 drops of essential oil per 25mL of base oil.

Why does everyone at Saffron Rouge rave about face oils?
Because they deliver serious results. After applying a face oil before going to bed, you wake up in the morning with skin that’s unbelievable soft. And after regular use, you really start to see your skin glowing more and more while fine lines start to dissolve away. They can also be used to boost your regular moisturizer by blending in a couple drops before applying.
How much oil do you apply?
You need 2-3 drops of oil per application to cover your face and maybe 1 drop for your décolleté area. Feel free to use an extra drop or two if your skin is very dry. If you used too much, lightly blot off the excess. Capsules contain a little more than 3 drops so be sure to cover your face and décolleté area with the amount enclosed. To give your moisturizer a little more oomph, try blending in a couple drops of face oil.
How long will a facial oil last?
As with most beauty products, it’s important to store a facial oil out of direct sunlight and somewhere not too warm. You only need a few drops of facial oil per application, so a 30mL bottle will last a very long time. Capsules are single-use applications with 30 per jar. So they’ll last 15 to 30 days depending on if you use them once or twice a day.
