Lips FAQ
I've heard my lip balm can be used to remove eye makeup, is this true?
It depends on the individual product. Some lip balms can be used to remove eye makeup such as Balm Balm's Fragrance Free Lip Balm. Other lip balms shouldn't be used around the eye area including any that contain essential oils. It is always recommended to use the right product for the right job, so check the label or product description to see if it's a multi-use product.
Why do some lip balms have a textured (almost gritty) feeling to them on first applying it?
Some plant oils and waxes start to solidify at cooler temperatures. This doesn't mean anything is wrong the lip balm. When the oils and waxes warm as they react with the heat from your lips, they will start melting and the texture will quickly smooth out.
Is there a difference between a lip balm in stick, tube, or pot format?
The only real difference is thickness. Balms in a stick or pot are sometimes more solid and formulas packaged in tubes. But it's usually a matter of personal preference.
Why are some lip balms a lot more expensive than others?
Ingredients are the typical factor in increased price. A simple plant oil and beeswax formula shouldn't cost the same as one containing highly potent anti-aging essential oils and plant extracts.
Can I use a lip balm underneath or on top of my lipstick?
Applying a lip balm before your lipstick will help the moisturizing and protecting properties better penetrate into your skin. However this may affect the performance and longevity of your lipstick. Also, the hue may not also appear as rich or deep. With some lip balms you can easily apply them overtop of your lipstick to add shine.
My lips always are chapped, what can I do?
If you're not already using a lip balm, now is the time to start. For extremely chapped lips, try applying your lip balm before bed, allowing it to soak in. If you're using a lip balm and still finding your lips are chapping, try switching to another one. If your lips are flaky try mildly exfoliating with a mix of Olive oil, sugar and honey. Mix the ingredients until you get your desired consistency and lightly rub onto lips. Be careful not to scrub too hard, especially if lips are cracked. Wipe or rinse off and follow with a balm.
