Serums FAQ
What do serums do?
Serums are concentrated formulas that hydrate the skin and deliver vital nutrients and vitamins to help rejuvenate and heal. They are great if you want intense hydration combined with visible luminosity. Some have soothing ingredients specific for reducing the appearance of redness and discoloration. They can also be formulated for brightening or combating sun damage.
Should I use a serum in addition to a moisturizer, or do they take the place of a moisturizer?
Moisturizers act to protect your skin, where serums may be less protective, but more therapeutic. You can use a serum under your moisturizer for additional skin benefits. However a serum can be applied on its own at night, if you have oily skin (instead of a moisturizer); or during weather conditions when you want to forgo a heavy moisturizer.
What's the difference between a serum, a gel and a facial oil?
The difference is oil. Serums and gels contain no or very little oil and absorb almost instantly. A facial oil – as its name implies – contains a high percentage of nurturing plant oil(s). All contain vital, intense nutrients, vitamins, and other healing ingredients.
Can serums be used on my neck area?
Yes, and they definitely should be. This region often gets missed and is typically the first area of your body to show the signs of aging. Serums are perfect for delivering potent nutrients to the décolleté area. Follow with your moisturizer on your neck as well.
Should I use a serum or gel day and night?
Definitely. A serum is great for daytime. At night, it’s up to you. You can leave your skin free of products so it can properly breathe. Or if you need something at night serums are a great option and we recommend them over moisturizers.
How long does a serum last?
Typically people apply too much – a little goes a long way. So a bottle should last longer than the same size daily moisturizer because you should be using less. We find serums generally last the longest of any product in a skin care routine because 1-2 pumps is all you need. We always tell people, if your skin feels sticky, you’ve used too much.
