Convenience compromises quality
The compact size and retractability is a handy feature as you don't want to have powder remnants flaking around in your purse or make-up bag. However, I find it detracts from the quality of the brush. I'd advise you to go for a regular quality brush and just toss it in a small case or baggie or something.
