More about this product

Although most popular to banish bugs, it can also be used to treat rheumatic pain, ease headaches and soothe cold symptoms or as a household cleaning agent. Used as a top note when infused with other oils, it blends well with both melissa (lemon balm) and cedar essential oils. It has a fresh, herbal lemony-balsamic scent. The aromatherapeutic and healing properties of the oil are preserved by steam distillation.

Okay but not a completely effective repellant 3

I live in an area with lots of mosquitoes with the occasional outbreak of dengue and malaria, so I have to be really careful with my family's repellant. I want so desperately for something natural to do the trick as I hate to douse myself or my kids in chemicals like DEET on a daily basis. However, I've never really found citronella to be all that effective. I think it reduces the amount of pests, but not enough to confidently eliminate the dangers. I use it as one line of defense - funny, I love the smell but apparently mozzies hate it - but sadly I don't depend on it exclusively.

Skeeter beater recipe.... 4

We used the following oil mix on Swedish mosquitoes, which are absolutely beastly: Cedar, Citronella, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Juniper. Make a few ml and then dilute a few drops into a small spray bottle of water. Smells great and the bugs hated it. Careful of your eyes (with small kids you can use the radiata version of eucalyptus).

Directions for use

Infuse the air with the bug-repelling properties of this oil by adding a few drops to a diffuser, burner or pot of steaming hot water. To create a body, massage or bath oil, blend 5 to 15 drops of either just citronella oil or a combination of different essential oils into 50 ml of a base oil. In the bath add 2 –3 drops of citronella essential oil to a natural emulsifier such as a base oil, cream, honey, liquid soap or sea salts. To experience the aromatherapeutic benefits, add a few drops of oil to a bowl of hot water and inhale the healing steam.
