Hydrosols (also known as floral waters) are the fragrant water produced during the essential oil steam distillation process. They're saturated with the scent and content of the essential oil, providing numerous nourishing benefits to the skin. Hydrosols can be used as a refreshing face and body spray, for face care, as a healing or soothing compress, or to blend natural perfumes. Also, try using a hydrosol in place of regular tap water when mixing up a dry mask.

Our Review

Floral Waters, also called Hydrosols, are by-products of the distillation of essential oils. They maintain the essence of the oil, but deliver it in a delicate, pleasant concentration. Floral waters may be used as a toner, for compresses, to freshen up during the day and for making perfumes. Primavera's Floral Waters are certified organic and among the highest quality floral waters in the world. Rose Floral Water is made using pure rose petals (Rosa Damascena) from Primavera's fair trade, certified organic, co-operative project in Turkey.

I primarily use Rose Floral Water as a facial toner. It's great for all skin types, but especially normal to dry, mature and sensitive skin. It's very cooling and soothing. On the aromatherapy level, it lifts the mood and imparts a feeling of inner harmony.

I also like to use floral waters in a mask in place of plain water. One of my favorite masks is simple, effective and leaves your skin glowing: Mix 3 spoonfuls of healing clay, 2 spoonfuls of Rose Floral Water, and a bit of Rose Hip Oil together. Apply the paste to the face, and decolletage and rinse off after 10-15 minutes.

Here are some other great ways to use Rose Floral Water:

• Apply as an aftershave to soothe irritated skin
• Use as a hormone balancer during menopause. Blend 7 drops of Clary Sage, 7 drops of Lemon and 1 drop of Rose into 100ml of Rose Floral Water. Shake and spray onto the breast area to help relieve hot flashes. (Also try Primavera's Women Oil.)
• Take Rose Floral Water along when traveling. It has mild antiseptic properties and serves as a cooling first-aid treatment.
• Help heal sunburns and wounds
• Give ordinary water a refreshing spritz. Spray a few pumps into a glass of water. Its tastes and smells just like a rose. Also try adding it to your homemade ice cream.
